Michelle's Story

My journey in Ringette has been a long and winding road, providing me with many opportunities and skills that I use in everyday life. I have played Ringette since I was 5 years old, playing each position at some point in my career. I currently play for an Open B team as a centre. Although I did not play at an elite level, being involved in the sport was always important to me. I am very passionate about this sport and have also been involved as a referee and an assistant coach.

Ringette has taught me to be both a leader and a team player. Beyond this, it has taught me how to be confident, how to think ahead, how to win and lose graciously, and much more. Ringette has been a large part of my successes in other areas of my life. I also compete at Confirmation dog shows and was a highly competitive Junior Handler. I was a top contender in Canada and even placed third at Nationals. Ringette equipped me with the ability to stay calm under pressure, which is a quality that has been instrumental in handling dogs. My passion for Ringette also led me to my career of being an Athletic Therapist. Everyday I help people to reach their goal in being pain free from injuries, aches, and pains. This career choice has provided opportunities to work with many Varsity athletes. I attest a lot of my career success to Ringette, because I have a better understanding of the physical and emotional well being of athletes.

My goal as a mentor is to be able to help young athletic girls to thrive in our sport, while helping them find ways to compete long term. I want to be a supportive person who can provide effective strategies to communicate with the coaching staff and trainers. With my professional background, I would be able to give advice about chronic injuries, concussion awareness, and most importantly, injury prevention strategies. I look forward to having the opportunity to inspire young athletes and share my passion for the amazing sport of Ringette.
