Lauren's Story

I was a multi-sport athlete growing up, who ended up specializing in basketball in grade nine while still participating in as many sporting activities as I possibly could. I was a provincial team athlete, I participated in National Team Training programs, and all of this led to me getting a full scholarship to play at the University of Lethbridge. In my time at the University of Lethbridge, I became the school record holder for career steals, the second leading scorer in program history, as well as the second leader in assists.

After my time at the U of L I played three seasons professionally overseas while also completing my Masters of Business Administration with a specialization in Sport Business. With this education it allowed me to retire from professional basketball, and pursue careers in the sport industry. I worked for Alberta Basketball Association, before making the move over to Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG) to pursue my dream of working in professional sport.

The reason that I chose to be involved with Girls in Sports AB is becasue I had a really unique childhood as my mom was a coach with a CIS basketball program. With that being said, my sister and I had many opportunities to be in a gym surrounded by female athletes and female coaches. These opportunities allowed me to see first had the impact of having strong, confident female role models, and it always influenced my decision to want to give back to young female athletes. I believe that this upbringing has contributed to why I have been coaching basketball for over 15 years. Looking forward to sharing my story and getting to know and support a new generation of athletes!
