Connie Kuang's Story
I developed a passion for sports at the age of 7, I loved to be active. There was something of a spark in me that developed this love at a young age. I started volleyball at the age of 8 and this one particular sport has grown heavenly on me. Leading into high school I persevered all summer long to develop skills to grow my confidence as an athlete.
As I endeavored in my journey, only at 14 years of age did I start to develop shoulder pain and tissue tear. My mind could not rehash whether or not to continue pursuing this sport. But my love and passion overpowered every aching pain I had. As a growing athlete, I decided it was time to take the next step and try out for Vancouver Volleyball Club (VVC). Though, still in pain, I continued to push myself above and beyond because I wanted to do what I needed to succeed as an athlete.
I recently (1 year ago) started Olympic weightlifting and I love every aspect of the sport. It challenges me cognitively and physically. My desire is to be able to mentor young women through tough times mentally or physically. I never had the emotional support as a growing athlete and it took a big toll on my well-being. If anyone has any questions or would just like to chat about different pathways as an athlete you can reach me on Instagram at Conniekuang_ or via email at Ckuang@fitnessworld.ca.
